There is a fascination with sharks in the mainstream, and this could have stemmed from the popularity of the animals in movies. Countless documentaries focus on the predators, with Canada’s Great White Sharks one of the newest entries. 4. Sharknado (Anthony C. Ferrante, 2013):

Some movies are so bad they are great, and Sharknado is easily up there with those guilty pleasures. In case you hadn’t guessed, the movie’s title is a portmanteau of shark and tornado, which reflects the premise. The offering from Thunder Levin became a cult sensation and led to five sequels in the series, along with three spin-offs. The latest of these was 2025 Armageddon, a crossover movie with various monsters from The Asylum universe.

3. The Meg (Jon Turteltaub, 2018):

Jason Statham is one of the world’s greatest action heroes, and directors are constantly scrambling to think about which deadly foes the Fast & Furious (David Leitch, 2019) actor could face off against next. It was an ingenious idea to pit the British actor against a Megalodon, as movie fans had probably always wondered who would win if the two ever came to blows. Unsurprisingly, the ancient creature didn’t stand a chance against the smooth-talking hard man.

2. Deep Blue Sea (Renny Harlin, 1999):

The creators of Deep Blue Sea decided to up the ante and introduce genetically engineered sharks that were “bigger, smarter, faster, meaner,” according to the movie’s marketing campaign. Renny Harlin’s unique formula worked, and Deep Blue Sea is regarded as one of the best shark offerings ever. It also has a memorably shocking scene involving Samuel L. Jackson, but there’s no need to go into detail here in case you haven’t seen it.

1. Jaws (Steven Spirlberg, 1975):

No list of shark movies would be complete without Jaws, the movie that kickstarted it all. Steven Spielberg has directed plenty of iconic and influential pictures in his time, but the 1975 horror is up there with his best works. You’ll think twice about swimming in the sea after watching this one. In fact, many people have said that they developed a fear of the ocean because of Jaws. Remember people: it’s just a movie.
